5 Day Teaching Retreat in Bali

Bali is a wonderful travel destination, and a great place to combine pleasure with gaining some skills. If you have taken the TESOL course online, or are interested in doing so, this retreat is the perfect way to get some practical teaching experience, as well as have some down time to enjoy the island.

I have  been teaching in Bali for over 20 years, and have my own language school, where I teach both children and adults, in general and business English. I also have collaborated with Stella’s Child, a Bali based Charity focused on providing practical training to the children from the orphanages. Some of the time during your stay will be spent with these orphanage kids, and I can guarantee you will find the experience uplifting, as they are the friendliest and most motivated kids I have ever met!

Details

Arrival:

Airport pick up and transport to the accommodation. You will be staying in twin rooms, although there are double rooms available if you want to have a room to yourself, but there will be a supplement for that. For those that take the twin option, we will do our best to pair you with a like minded travel buddy to share your room. There is free wifi and a private pool. This day will involve introductions, and relaxing by the pool, and settling in. Depending on how we feel we can either have dinner at the hotel or venture out for something to eat.

Day 1:

Introduction, and going over what you have learned on the TESOL course, I will be happy to answer any questions that you may have, as well as give you some practical tips on how to put that theory in to practice. We will be preparing lesson plans for the week.

Day 2:

Training and practice. After completing your lesson plans, you will have the chance to teach some of my students, while being watched by myself and the others on the course, and we will all provide feedback and suggestions.

Day 3:

Sightseeing: We will be visiting a traditional Balinese house compound, in a more remote area of Bali, far away from the tourist crowds, so that you can get a taste of the way that the Balinese people live. Next is a leisurely drive through small villages, bamboo jungles and the spectacular terraced rice fields of Jatiluwih . These rice fields are beautiful enough to have been placed as a potential UNESCO world heritage site. There will be a stop during the day for lunch ( not included). The last stop of the day is Tanah Lot which is one of Bali’s most famous temples just in time to watch the sunset before being dropped back at the accomdation.

Day 4:

More training and practice, this time, with the orphanage kids

Day 5:

This day will be for private mentoring with specific feedback and advice on how to improve your teaching skills, and how to land yourself a job. After checking out, you will have the chance to do some shopping before catching your flight back home.

Optional extra 2 days:

If you are interested in extending for an extra 2 days we are offering a 2 day getaway in Nusa Ceningan, which is a small island off the coast of Sanur. It is a 30 minute boat ride away, and well worth the visit. It is like stepping back in time, as the roads are small, and there is very little traffic. It is the perfect place to relax, and recuperate before heading back home. Here is a bit of motivation for taking this:
